A Golf Course Heroine

I am always moved by examples of human greatness. It's not so much the deeds but the determination that I find so compelling in our species.
Determination is the seed of courage; determination defies and dares.
In my mind that could be no truer than when you consider Sheila Drummond.
The 53 year old woman was blinded by diabetes 26 years ago.
But on Sunday, she was playing golf as usual with her husband and several friends when she recorded a hole-in-one.
The fact that a woman, dealt a tough hand with a diabetic condition and then blinded by that condition, plays golf speaks volumes for her character.
For all of us sighted golfers, let's try to remember how fortunate we are to be able to see not just a hole-in-one but any great shot we hit.
In fact, to see a golf course
maybe in the morning through a mist, is a pretty lovely sight. And speaking of lovely sights, I had a comment from Alex Arango, a reader, who had read my post called Spectacular Sedona.
He, too, had played and stayed at the Sedona Golf Resort and enjoyed it but he also passed along a heads-up on a fine course in Colorado called Pole Creek.
Alex says he played it this summer and loved it. It certainly does look magnificent so I pass it along for all who might be interested.
For the next couple of days, I'll be down in the Niagara Region of Ontario where they make great wine and build great golf courses.
Weather permitting (it's supposed to rain hard in this part of the world), we'll be playing The Legends on the Niagara.
