Golf Courses
by Chris Henry on July 1, 2007

Davis Love III held a press conference at Angus Glen golf club in north Toronto where this year's Canadian Open will be held (just a week after the British Open).
Love and his design team were contracted by the course owners and RCGA (owners of the Canadian Open) to modify the course and make it a true Open layout.
That meant toughening things up, starting with the rough.
Angus Glen is a public course that offers a private club feel - everything is top notch - so it's a no-brainer for companies to hold tournaments there.
The poor amateurs who have been playing the North Course where the Canadian Open will be staged have been losing balls by the dozens in the rough.
So be it - a golf course preparing for a professional tournament has to make changes that an amateur will struggle with.
Love also rearranged, redesigned and rebuilt bunkers to create more traps, literally, for the long hitting pros.
The only things he left alone at Angus Glen were the greens.
At any rate, my colleague Robert Thompson and I, along with a cameraman, conducted a one-on-one interview with Love on the changes and then we followed Love out onto the course where he played a full 18 holes to get a feel for his renderings.
I have produced the video along with my old Golf Channel editor buddy, Dave Grein and it can be found on a heavily visited Canadian golf site, OntGolf.ca.
Take a look and let us know what you think. That site is going to be home to more such projects (instruction, equipment, course reviews) in the future.

Hi Jeffery - I have passed along your question to a course architect colleague of mine, Ian Andrew (www.thecaddyshack.blogspot.com). I'll let you know what he comes up with!
