When Morgan Pressel won the LPGA Kraft Nabisco Championship on Sunday, breaking the nearly 40 year record for being the youngest golfer to ever win a major, the first woman to do it was watching at home.

Sandra Post won the LPGA Championship in 1968 at the age of 20.

Sandra has been a tremendous resource here at eagleparbirdie.com and, in our recent series of interviews, she spoke openly about the LPGA and about her record.

I contacted her and her reply to my email on Monday morning is equally open and direct.

In fact, Sandra wrote it like the true sportswoman she is.

I am reprinting her remarks here:

"I have held the record for 39 years. This has been a great trivia question. Who would have thought I would hold a record like this for almost 4 decades?

The LPGA was the first major I had ever played in and little did I realize the victory would stay with me this long.

Ironically, Morgan Pressel won her major event where I also won back to back in '78-'79 at Mission Hills, Rancho Mirage, California. It wasn't a major then, only in the hearts and minds of the tour players.

To Morgan Pressel, this is just the beginning. She has had enough pitfalls along her young way. She has earned this sweet victory. What a wonderful way to start her winning career – with a major and a record.

I am not sure she will hold this record for 39 years, but it will be a while, for winning a major is more difficult on young, untested nerves.

So, congratulations to the very gracious, talented and spirited Morgan Pressel. Go out and break some more records, that is why they are there."
