The athlete, amateur or professional, is often revered in our world. A cricketer from Pakistan, a footballer from Spain, a race driver from Charlotte or a golfer from the hills of Virginia – all hold a high place of honor in the minds of many.

Yet an athlete is not "born". Certainly there is an abundance of talent but that talent is like a lump of wet clay until it's shaped through thousands of hours of training and practice into a vessel capable of holding greatness.

Perhaps that's why the vast majority of us would rather pay to watch others who have put in the hard work than put in that hard work ourselves.

Recreational golfers fall for the marketing lines of the club makers and buy the square head driver that will offer more distance and the longer ball to go along with it. An alternative would be to engage in a simple workout routine of stretching and strength training which would not only achieve that longed-for distance off the tee but add years of healthy living as well.

It's funny, isn't it, that we opt for the low road rather than the greater rewards of the high road time after time.

Mike Pedersen is a guy who has taken the high road most of his life. Mike is one of those who had an abundance of athletic ability and forged that into a track and field career as a nationally ranked decathlete.

With his track days behind him, he is now a personal fitness and golf trainer whose first of numerous fitness articles appeared here recently.

He's not just another "swing and sweat with Joe Laflette" trainer; Mike uses diet as much as stretches and weights to help his clients achieve their golfing goals.

If you want to improve your golf game, add distance off the tee, walk 18 holes while carrying your bag (okay, that's the road ABOVE the high road), then Mike Pedersen is the guy you should listen to.

And that's exactly what you can do by clicking the link below and allowing a minute or two for the download.
