Scottish golfer Paul Lawrie has been given the go-ahead to construct a golf resort and housing development on greenbelt land in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
Yes, that's the same Aberdeenshire where Donald Trump had been fighting a losing PR battle to build his own modest tribute to golf real estate late last year.
And, irony of ironies, the Aberdeenshire Council was the body that approved Lawrie's project, meaning the infrastructure services committee had to give its okay to the project. That is the very same committee that flatly refused to pass Trump's plan to extensively alter environmentally sensitive areas for his project.
To add even more wry note to the irony, because Lawrie's project is on greenbelt land (although not reportedly environmentally sensitive land), the Scottish Parliament must give its final blessing.
The same Scottish Parliament that is now mulling over Donald Trump's bid.
Life is always fascinating and often flummoxing.

I really don't know why the council approved Paul Lawrie's application and not Trump's. As a Scotsman though, I am glad they refused Trump and approved Lawrie. Half of Scotland is owned by American and Japanese investors as it is - it is nice to see a local lad taking on a big golf project like this.

Yeah, it's a bit of a head-scratcher but it appears that Lawrie's project didn't carry the environmental dangers that Trump's project does. Bear in mind, Trump was rejected by the infrastructure committee of the Aberdeenshire Council and only by a single vote, that of the committee chairman. That's when the s**t hit the fan and the Scottish government stepped in to take over. Trump, of course, has many friends in high places at Holyrood and one helluva good PR machine. He's not dead yet...
