Who Is Edward Michaels?

It really is fascinating what you can unearth on the internet, with a little digging.

I decided to see how Roy C. Moon was doing on the Asian Tour.

I wrote about Roy in an earlier post dealing with the struggles of touring pros on the far-flung tours of the world.

Roy was doing okay on the Asian Order of Merit after two tournaments but hasn't played on the tour since.

Perhaps he's back home; maybe the Asian Tour didn't suit him. Who knows?

But another American, one of ten on the Asian Tour this season, is currently 26th on the Order of Merit.

Edward Michaels, who hails from Atlanta, Georgia, is no rookie on the Asian Tour like Roy Moon is.

Michaels captured the Philippine Open in 2004 at, get this, the Riviera Golf and Country Club. In Tagaytay. Not Pacific Palisades.

The 31 year old has been playing the Asian Tour since 2004 when the Tour's Order of Merit officially began under sponsor, UBS Warburg.

That year, Michaels won just over 57 thousand from 14 tournaments to finish 40th on the money list.

The same year, Thongchai Jaidee won the Order of Merit with over 380 grand from just nine tournaments.

Things picked up for Michaels in '05, financially, when he put another 30 thousand bucks in his pocket and played one less tournament.

Thaworn Wirichant from Thailand took the money title in '05 with more than half a million in earnings. He played the whole schedule, though. All 23 tournaments.

Michaels doesn't appear on the money list for the following year. But his name turns up on the roster of the Nationwide Tour in '06.

However, it looks like he didn't compete at all on the Nationwide last year.

This year, Michaels is back in Asia, competing once again on the Asian Tour.

So, who is Edward Michaels? It's hard to say. The stats on him are slim.

We know he's won once, back in '04. But that didn't seem to propel his career in an upward direction.

In two years, he won nearly 150 thousand dollars. Then, nothing last year, according to available statistics and tour lists.

And we know he's back in Asia this season.

That's all we know about one golfer out of thousands plying his trade in distant lands.

Really, we know nothing about Edward Michaels. And it won't be until he gets his 15 minutes of fame - if he gets it - that we will know any more about him.

As far as the general public is concerned, he is the Unknown Golfer.

I can't help wondering what his dreams and aspirations are. I doubt I'll ever know.
