Monty on the March to Love
There are some interesting news items to pass along from the world of golf - that's the world that exists outside the PGA Tour.
For example, Scot Colin Montgomerie has announced his engagement to a Scottish lass.
Monty went through a fairly bitter divorce several years ago but he seems to have found love once again.
The big Scot admitted during his breakup that he wasn't the easiest man to live with.
French golfer, Jean Van de Velde appears to be on the road to recovery after a mystery ailment that has plagued him for five months.
Van de Velde, famous for his Open collapse in 1999 at Carnoustie (and because the golf media will never let him or us forget it...), was afflicted in March and hasn't played since June.
He was tested for everything under the sun, including bone cancer but all tests were negative. Which means he and his doctors still don't know what the problem was.
But he's feeling well enough to get back to work and will tee it up at the European Masters in Switzerland next week.
China is hosting the World Cup of Golf in November. This is a two man team competition and the number of teams has been increased from 24 to 28 for the tournament.
18 will be exempt due to the world rankings of their players while 10 other teams will have to qualify at events in Asia and South America.
And, unlike World Cup football, the host nation has to qualify as well (due to world ranking). However, should the Chinese pair fail to do so, they will receive an invitation to compete, nonetheless.
Plenty going on in the world of golf besides the FedEx Cup.
